2024 GAL Training
The Children’s Law Center, Inc.
in collaboration with the
Office of the Chief Public Defender and GAL/AMC Oversight Committee
is presenting an on-line, comprehensive training for
prospective, new, and experienced GAL/AMCs.

Any interested party who meets eligibility requirements may attend the training to become a qualified GAL/AMC in family court. *
Anyone already practicing may attend any portion of the training that they might find beneficial.
Training is MANDATORY ONLY for prospective AMCS & GALS.
Training is OPTIONAL to all current AMCS & GALS who wish to attend one, some, or all of the sessions.
**PLEASE NOTE, if you cannot attend one of the virtual training sessions live, you will be able to access the recorded version.
Once registered, you will receive a Microsoft Teams link. All necessary materials will be provided to you prior to the training.
* Participantswho have not already been qualified must complete this entire 20-hour comprehensive preservice training as required by Connecticut Practice Book Section 25-62 to be eligible to be a GAL or AMC in Family Matters.
** Eligibility: 1) You are an attorney in good standing, licensed to practice law in the State of Connecticut by the Judicial Branch, or are a mental health professional licensed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and in good standing in the areas of clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, professional counseling, psychology or psychiatry; 2) You do not have a criminal record; 3) You do not appear on the Department of Children and Families’ central registry of child abuse and neglect; and you meet all eligibility criteria in the Connecticut Practice Book Sec. 25-62
*** The GAL/AMC training may be available to 3rd year law students as well as final-year graduate students studying in the areas of clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, professional counseling, psychology or psychiatry. Please note that student registration is not guaranteed and must be approved by the Standing Committee on Guardians Ad Litem (GAL) and Attorneys for the Minor Child (AMC) in Family Matters. Students will be notified via email regarding the status of their registration following a determination by the Standing Committee. Please note that students who complete the full 20 hours of training will not be deemed eligible for appointment as an AMC/GAL unless/until they otherwise comply with all eligibility requirements in PB Sections 25-62 and 25-62A.
